How to spend a Lottery Jackpot - sound advice from a billioanire

With the Euromillions jackpot at £133 million tomorrow, I found this really interesting article from John Caudwell, who made £1.5bn when he sold Phones4U, on how to spend it.

The advice to lottery winners was originally featured in The Daily Mirror. If anybody knows the ups and downs of riches, a billionaire would. It is addressed to £148 million winners Adrian and Gillian Bayford and is interesting stuff from Mr Caudwell.  To read the article click here.

Tuesday November 6th's  Euromillion Lotto jackpot is an estimated £106 million. And while you are getting your ticket, pop some money on the National Lottery Rollover Jackpot for Wednesday, expected to be £9.4 million.

If you do grab the Euromillions Rollover Jackpot, you will become the fourth biggest UK Lottery Winner, eclipsing Dave and Angela Dawes (pictured right)

Dave and Angela Dawes won the top prize in October 2011 in only their third go at the Euromillions Lottery. Lucky for them and galling for all of us who play twice a week and have won a top prize of £4.10!

The first thing they did when they won was to announce themselves “officially retired” – wouldn't we all want to do that! They also promised to make 20 of their friends millionaires.

The second biggest Euromillions Jackpot winners have been revealed as couple from Suffolk.  Adrian and Gillian Bayford from Haverhill  have been named as the lucky winners of the massive £148,656,000 EuroMillions jackpot prize for 10 August 2012). The jackpot had rolled-over 14 times before it had to be won.

Adrian and Gillian zoom into second place in The National Lottery Rich List, just behind Colin and Chris Weir from Largs who remain at the top of the list with their jackpot of £161,653,000 won in July 2011. This latest win continues the UK’s amazing run of luck on EuroMillions; the couple are the seventh big jackpot winners so far this year.

An interview with the lucky couple can be seen below.

£63.8 million Euromillions prize remains unclaimed

The £63.8 million Euromillions prize won by a UK ticket holder remains unclaimed nearly a fortnight after the draw.
There were two jackpot winners in the June 8 draw - one in Belgium and one in the UK. But the owner of the British lucky ticket - who could be an individual or a syndicate - is yet to come forward to collect the £63,837,543.60 prize.
If the prize is not claimed by 6pm on Thursday, the area in which the ticket was bought will be named by the National Lottery. There would then be a publicity drive in the region on Friday in a bid to find the winner.
A National Lottery spokeswoman said: "This area is provided by Camelot's security team in line with its licence obligations and is designed to encourage tickets to be checked but also to enable the ticket-holder to remain anonymous if they wish."

A bored mother who was fed up with her partner constantly watching Euro 2012 on television has won £1.3million after playing online bingo to pass the time.
Lisa Potter, 33, from Witney, Oxfordshire, placed a £5 bet to entertain herself when Terry Goodman refused to turn over the daily coverage of the football tournament.
And while he was glued to Spain's 4-0 win over Ireland last Thursday evening, the mother-of-three won the entire rollover jackpot in only her second spin on Ladbrokes Bingo.
Lisa Potter celebrates her £1.3 million Jackpot win on Ladbrokes Bingo with friends and family
Lisa said : 'I had a spare minute and wanted to get away from the football so I decided to log on.
'As soon as I saw the size of the jackpot I thought it was worth a go - and I couldn't believe my eyes when it said that I'd won.
'I can't remember much after, it's all a blur. My kids came into the room and we all started screaming. It's like a madhouse in here.'
Ladbrokes has already handed over a cheque for £1,364,745.23 to Miss Potter at a champagne party.
She now plans to treat her family to a luxury holiday and a new house and car.
She said: 'We're a normal family so this will change my life forever. The first thing we're going to do is buy a new house before treating ourselves
The jackpot is the third largest win in the history of the game and is the biggest payout on a similar game in more than three years.
Ladbrokes has also reported an upturn of 400 per cent in similar cases as women play bingo to pass the time during Euro 2012 matches.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: 'We're absolutely over the moon for her. It's one of the biggest wins of all time and we've sent the champers along to kick off the celebrations.'
He added: 'We bet she'll never moan at her man for watching the footie ever again!'

Spare a thought for the Scottish lottery player who forgot to put his lucky number. Forgetting to pick lucky number costs Scottish punter £106m on EuroMillions GUTTED Paul Gethins missed out on a £106million Lotto jackpot – because of his favourite number. Instead he got around £3,500.

My first thought is wow, missing out on 1 number and you get so little - a measley £3,500, and the chances are you'll never get closer again!. My second thought is why go for publicity on this Paul? Some will be sympathetic, but for every one of those there will be people who think "It's your own fault matey!". I am in the sympathy camp and re-inforces my preference for the lucky dip - it is beter not to know how unlucky you have been!
